Water is the most calming of all elements.  Wind is transitory, fire can be destructive, and earth is what wars are fought over. The water though, isn’t going anywhere.  No man puts a stake in the ocean.

If there is one thing I learned about myself at an early age, it is that I am a water child. From needing to be dragged out of the pool in younger days to the serenity I seek sitting by the shore, the love of water defines me. Having recently returned to Virginia following a three-year absence, I have come to realize how much I love Virginia and why and that life as a Virginian also defines me.

Within her Commonwealth borders, Virginia has everything to offer from mountains, metropolitan and urban areas, to farms and small towns with tessellated lanterned main streets. What I love best are her waterways and the small towns they harbor.

This blog is primarily about my love affair with Virginia, although you are most welcome to tag along and explore with me.  Perhaps you will find a place to visit or point me towards my next adventure.

Please share your thoughts, comments, and own adventures.

The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever. – Jacques Yves Cousteau
